Stuart Summer Camp

Stuart area schools are out for summer on June 5th so kids and parents are looking for camps and other activities.

School is out on June 5th in Martin County and parents and their kids are making plans for summer. In Stuart and the surrounding area there are some options for summer camps offered by Martin County Parks and Recreation and other organizations.

Day Camp in Stuart Florida

Day camps offer a wide variety of both outdoor and indoor activities. In the Stuart Florida area Martin County Parks and Recreation is the only general day camp. There are a few speciality camps for sailing and boating, which we will discuss later.

Martin County offers summer camp in Jensen Beach, Palm City, and Hobe Sound. The summer camp program offers swimming, arts and crafts, field trips, and many other indoor and outdoor activities. Each of the three camps have limited availability.

Martin County Summer Camp Details

Camp for 2009 starts on Monday, June 8th and ends on August 21. Camp hours are from 7:30am until 5:30pm and camp is open to boys and girls from 5 to 12 years old.

Camp Pricing
Martin County residents pay $75 per week and non residents pay $85 per week. There are discounts for families with more than 1 child. Camp pricing includes a camp t-shirt and field trips.

Sailing Camp

The US Sailing Center in Jensen Beach offers a summer sailing camp for ages 7 to 17. The camp teaches sailing and racing. Campers must pass a basic swimming test that requires that each student swim 25 yards (with no lifejacket) and tread water for 2 minutes.

The US Sailing Center also offers year round sailing classes and has a race team.

Summer Boating Camp

The Chapman School of Seamanship offers three youth boating courses. Each course is a one week program.

Summer Boating for Youth

New boaters ages 11 to 17 can start with the Summer Boating for Youth course, which teaches the basic skills needed to operated a small power vessel. This course prepares students to take the Florida State Boating Basics Exam.

Advanced Summer Boating for Youth

Boaters with experience that are between 14 and 17 can take the advanced boating course at Chapman School of Seamanship. This boating class includes vessel maintenance, navigation, and advanced seamanship.

A few of the topics in the advanced boating class include basic marine electronics, advanced navigation, reading charts, towing and anchoring, line handling, docking, undocking, rescue techniques and more.

Surf Camp

Surf Central in Stuart has been providing a surf camp at Stuart Beach for the last 7 years. This years surf camp starts on June 8 and ends August 4 and is open to children age 8 to 16.

Camp runs from 9am until 1pm Monday through Friday. Campers should bring a towel, sunscreen, and lunch.  Those that have a surfboard can bring it or or Surf Central will provide both long and short boards. Fridays are beach party day with free hamburgers, hot dogs, and sodas.

There will be visiting surf professionals and special events.
